Disaster mitigation: Mitigation is a process aimed at reducing the impact of natural such as earthquakes, cyclones, Tsunami, landslides and man-made disasters like industrial hazards, war, fire, famine, biological hazards etc., in a community.
Under the theme disaster mitigation, which is the cornerstone of emergency management and evolving science, a bootcamp has been organized with the motto of spreading the basic knowledge about the natural, man-made, health and other disasters, and their mitigation among the students’. The theme presents the overall assessment/knowledge of disaster mitigation over the students’ community. Towards this, two lectures have been conducted under the theme of disaster mitigation.
The first lecture on “Disaster: Mitigation and Preparedness” has been delivered by Dr. S. Gomathinayagam, Former Director General, National Institute of Wind Energy, Chennai which covered mostly on natural disasters.
The second lecture titled “One Health: To Mitigate Imminent Perils of Human Health” has been delivered by Dr.Dipyaman Ganguly, Principal Scientist, CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Biology, Kolkatta, covered the topics of human health-related issues.
