The twin milestones symbolise India’s journey from a developing nation with limited meteorological infrastructure to a global leader in weather forecasting, climate services, and multi-hazard early warning systems.
Since Independence in 1947, IMD has evolved from conventional weather observations to a modern, technology-driven organization that leverages satellites, Doppler Weather Radars, high-performance computing, artificial intelligence, and advanced numerical weather prediction models. These advancements have significantly enhanced the accuracy and timeliness of weather forecasts and early warnings, helping save countless lives and protecting livelihoods across the country.
Every accurate forecast, cyclone warning, monsoon prediction, heatwave advisory, and impact-based forecast reflects IMD’s unwavering commitment to nation-building. By supporting agriculture, aviation, shipping, disaster management, water resources, renewable energy, and public safety, IMD continues to contribute to India’s growth, resilience, and sustainable development.
On the occasion of Independence Day 2026, the India Meteorological Department (IMD), under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, in collaboration with MyGov, proudly presents the IMD Quiz Contest. The quiz aims to inspire students and citizens to learn about:
– India’s meteorological heritage and IMD’s 150-year journey.
– IMD’s role in nation-building since Independence.
– Weather, climate, monsoon, and disaster early warning systems.
– Scientific achievements, technological innovations, and milestones of IMD.
– The importance of weather and climate services in building a resilient and self-reliant India.

जब 15 अगस्त 2026 को भारत अपनी आज़ादी के 79 साल पूरे होने का जश्न मना रहा है, तो देश भारत मौसम विज्ञान विभाग की शानदार विरासत को भी याद कर रहा है, जिसने 2025 में अपनी समर्पित सेवा के 150 साल पूरे किए। ये दोनों उपलब्धियाँ भारत के उस सफ़र को दिखाती हैं जिसमें वह सीमित मौसम संबंधी बुनियादी ढांचे वाले एक विकासशील देश से मौसम की भविष्यवाणी, जलवायु सेवाओं और कई तरह के खतरों की शुरुआती चेतावनी देने वाले सिस्टम के मामले में एक ग्लोबल लीडर बन गया है।
1947 में आज़ादी के बाद से, IMD पारंपरिक मौसम निगरानी से बदलकर एक आधुनिक, तकनीक-आधारित संगठन बन गया है जो उपग्रहों, डॉपलर वेदर रडार, हाई-परफॉर्मेंस कंप्यूटिंग, आर्टिफिशियल इंटेलिजेंस और मौसम की भविष्यवाणी करने वाले एडवांस्ड न्यूमेरिकल मॉडल का इस्तेमाल करता है। इन तरक्कियों ने मौसम की भविष्यवाणी और पूर्व-चेतावनी की सटीकता और समय पर जानकारी देने की क्षमता को काफी बेहतर बनाया है, जिससे देश भर में अनगिनत लोगों की जान बचाने और उनकी आजीविका की रक्षा करने में मदद मिली है।
हर सटीक भविष्यवाणी, चक्रवात की चेतावनी, मॉनसून का अनुमान, लू (हीटवेव) की सलाह और प्रभाव-आधारित भविष्यवाणी देश के निर्माण के प्रति IMD की अटूट प्रतिबद्धता को दर्शाती है। कृषि, विमानन, शिपिंग, आपदा प्रबंधन, जल संसाधन, नवीकरणीय ऊर्जा और सार्वजनिक सुरक्षा में सहयोग देकर, IMD भारत की तरक्की, मज़बूती और टिकाऊ विकास में योगदान देना जारी रखे हुए है।
आज़ादी दिवस 2026 के मौके पर, पृथ्वी विज्ञान मंत्रालय के तहत आने वाला भारत मौसम विज्ञान विभाग (IMD), MyGov के सहयोग से गर्व के साथ IMD प्रश्नोत्तरी प्रतियोगिता पेश कर रहा है। इस प्रश्नोत्तरी का मकसद छात्रों और नागरिकों को इन विषयों के बारे में जानने के लिए प्रेरित करना है:
– भारत की मौसम विज्ञान संबंधी विरासत और IMD की 150 साल की यात्रा।
– आज़ादी के बाद से देश के निर्माण में IMD की भूमिका।
– मौसम, जलवायु, मॉनसून और आपदा की पूर्व-चेतावनी प्रणालियाँ।
– IMD की वैज्ञानिक उपलब्धियाँ, तकनीकी इनोवेशन और अहम पड़ाव।
– एक मज़बूत और आत्मनिर्भर भारत बनाने में मौसम और जलवायु सेवाओं का महत्व।
आइए, वैज्ञानिक इनोवेशन, जन-सेवा और देश की तरक्की की भावना का सम्मान करते हुए आज़ादी दिवस 2026 मनाएँ। आइए, हम सब मिलकर लोगों की जान बचाने, मज़बूती बढ़ाने और विकसित भारत के विज़न को सहारा देने में IMD के अमूल्य योगदान को पहचानें।

Employees of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), as well as individuals directly or indirectly associated with the organization or conduct of the competition, are not eligible to participate. This restriction also applies to their immediate family members. / भारत मौसम विज्ञान विभाग (IMD) के कर्मचारी, और साथ ही प्रतियोगिता के आयोजन या संचालन से सीधे या परोक्ष रूप से जुड़े व्यक्ति इसमें भाग लेने के पात्र नहीं हैं। यह प्रतिबंध उनके निकटतम परिवार के सदस्यों पर भी लागू होता है।

Only one entry from each participant will be considered. If it is discovered that a participant has submitted more than one entry, all the entries from the participant will be disqualified. / प्रत्येक प्रतिभागी की केवल एक प्रविष्टि (entry) पर विचार किया जाएगा। यदि यह पता चलता है कि किसी प्रतिभागी ने एक से अधिक प्रविष्टियाँ जमा की हैं, तो उस प्रतिभागी की सभी प्रविष्टियों को अयोग्य घोषित कर दिया जाएगा।

The Quiz is accessible to national participants through the “Mygov.in” platform. / यह प्रश्नोत्तरी “Mygov.in” प्लेटफ़ॉर्म के माध्यम से राष्ट्रीय प्रतिभागियों के लिए उपलब्ध है।

The quiz contains 10 questions to be answered in 5 minutes. / प्रश्नोत्तरी में 10 प्रश्न हैं जिनके उत्तर 5 मिनट में देने हैं।

The selection of winners will be based on correct answers in the fastest time. / विजेताओं का चयन सबसे कम समय में सही उत्तर देने के आधार पर किया जाएगा।

e-Certificates will be issued to all participants. / सभी प्रतिभागियों को ई–प्रमाण पत्र जारी किए जाएंगे।

The Winners Selection will be conducted through a system-generated randomization method to ensure fairness and transparency. All participants who meet the mentioned quiz winning criteria, including all correct answers and submission within the stipulated time-frame, will be included in a centralized pool of eligible entries. Winners will be selected solely through an automated random selection process. / विजेताओं का चयन एक सिस्टम द्वारा जनरेट की गई रैंडमाइज़ेशन (यादृच्छिक) विधि से किया जाएगा, ताकि निष्पक्षता और पारदर्शिता सुनिश्चित की जा सके। जिन सभी प्रतिभागियों ने क्विज़ जीतने के निर्धारित मानदंडों को पूरा किया होगा, जिसमें सभी प्रश्नों के सही उत्तर देना और निर्धारित समय–सीमा के भीतर उत्तर जमा करना शामिल है, उन्हें पात्र प्रविष्टियों के एक केंद्रीकृत समूह में शामिल किया जाएगा। विजेताओं का चयन केवल एक स्वचालित रैंडम चयन प्रक्रिया के माध्यम से किया जाएगा।

There will not be negative markings for wrong answers. / गलत उत्तरों के लिए कोई नकारात्मक अंकन (negative marking) नहीं होगा।

Organisers will not be responsible for lost entries, late or incomplete, or have not been transmitted due to computer error or any other error beyond the organiser’s reasonable control. / आयोजक खोई हुई, देर से प्राप्त, अधूरी प्रविष्टियों या कंप्यूटर की खराबी या आयोजक के उचित नियंत्रण से बाहर की किसी अन्य त्रुटि के कारण प्राप्त न होने वाली प्रविष्टियों के लिए जिम्मेदार नहीं होंगे।

The participant shall abide by all the rules and regulations of participating in the Quiz Contest. / प्रतिभागी को प्रश्नोत्तरी प्रतियोगिता में भाग लेने के सभी नियमों और विनियमों का पालन करना होगा।

Organizers reserve all rights to disqualify or refuse participation to any participant if they deem participation or association of any participant which is detrimental to the Quiz or the Organizers or partners of the Quiz. The registrations shall be void if the information received by the Organizers is illegible, incomplete, damaged, false, or erroneous. / यदि आयोजकों को लगता है कि किसी प्रतिभागी की भागीदारी या जुड़ाव प्रश्नोत्तरी या आयोजकों या प्रश्नोत्तरी के भागीदारों के लिए हानिकारक है, तो वे किसी भी प्रतिभागी को अयोग्य घोषित करने या भागीदारी से इनकार करने का पूरा अधिकार सुरक्षित रखते हैं। यदि आयोजकों को प्राप्त जानकारी अस्पष्ट, अधूरी, क्षतिग्रस्त, गलत या त्रुटिपूर्ण है, तो पंजीकरण अमान्य माना जाएगा।

Organizer’s decision on the Quiz shall be final, and no correspondence will be entertained in this regard. / प्रश्नोत्तरी पर आयोजक का निर्णय अंतिम होगा, और इस संबंध में किसी भी पत्राचार पर विचार नहीं किया जाएगा।
